=== *Description* ============================================================
Category

Description
    While performing an SX:CE to Indiana upgrade based on the procedure in
http://blogs.sun.com/edp/entry/moving_from_nevada_and_live, but with a minimized
installation, I came across the following error with the new BE in a mirrored
root pool mounted at /a:
# /a/boot/solaris/bin/update_grub -R /a
Creating GRUB menu in /a
bootadm: failed to open file: /a/etc/release: No such file or directory
bootadm: not using biosdev command for disk: /dev/rdsk/mirror-0.
Installing grub on /dev/rdsk/c1t1d0s1
stage1 written to partition 0 sector 0 (abs 1440)
stage2 written to partition 0, 273 sectors starting at 50 (abs 1490)
Creating GRUB menu in /a
bootadm: failed to open file: /a/etc/release: No such file or directory
bootadm: not using biosdev command for disk: /dev/rdsk/mirror-0.
Installing grub on /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s1

stage2 written to partition 0, 273 sectors starting at 50 (abs 16115)
update_grub in system/kernel needs /etc/release to create the menu entry, but
system/kernellacks a dependency on release/name which provides that file.
Frequency
    Always
Regression
    no
Steps to Reproduce
    Install only SUNWcs and SUNWcsd into a new empty BE, add
system/kernel/platform
for /kernel/i86pc, and run update_grub as above.
Expected Result
    update_grub works.
Actual Result
    update_grub fails due to missing /etc/release.

=== *Public Comments* ========================================================
As the blog says, its an unsupported way of doing the cross grade from sxce to
OpenSolaris - and hence any issues you might hit while following that procedure
can't be treated as bugs.
