AriaTosca's Project Management Committee (PMC) has voted unanimously to retire it as an incubation project under the Apache Software Foundation, after six months with no development and all committers having moved on.
The source code is still available under the Apache 2.0 license for those who wish to fork and continue development. The copyright is owned by the Apache Software Foundation. I see ONAP as having two options moving forward. The first is to deprecate the use of ARIA and make plans for its replacement. The second is to fork it into ONAP and devote resources to fixing its bugs and continuing its development. There are still missing features and gaps in its TOSCA support, and it is locked at TOSCA 1.0. I would like to personally thank Cloudify for funding AriaTosca. It was a significant contribution to the TOSCA ecosystem and was useful for both OPEN-O and ONAP. Unfortunately, this use did not lead to developer attention from those communities, which was necessary for the project to graduate from incubation while ensuring its ongoing health. Many thanks also to the Apache Software Foundation for accepting the project for incubation, for their mentorship, and for their assistance. As it goes, many projects do not graduate from incubation. Nevertheless, the knowledge and experience live on for those who worked on the project. I continue to believe TOSCA is strongly positioned as a powerful language for modeling cloud topologies (at the same as I believe that its normative types are a dead end for cloud orchestration).
