Thanks to former Braddock Bay counter Greg Lawrence for helping spot birds and count loons, cormorants, and tree swallows. Also visiting from the Rochester area was Janis George. Welcome to Bill S. who visited for the first time and saw a good flight. Weather: Overcast with light to moderate ESE winds. Brighter in the midday then darker with rain moving in mid-afternoon and ending the count early. Raptor Observations: Slow for the first few hours then steady migration until the rain hit. Turkey Vultures were steady with small to medium groups moving for a total of 300. A good flight of 13 Ospreys. Moderate numbers of harriers and Accips. Eighteen red-tails and an adult red-shoulder. The first Broad-winged Hawk of the season was an adult that came through in the morning. An immature Golden Eagle migrated out over the lake. For falcons we had six kestrels and two Merlins. Despite the gloomy conditions that flight became quite high altitude during the peak time.
