Temps reaching around 50F. Count conducted from the South Lookout. Raptor Observations: An excellent flight overall with over three thousand raptors for the day. The flight line was low to medium altitude and was mostly fluctuating between overhead and inland. Turkey Vultures flew for ten hours for a final total of 2,831. Eleven each of Osprey and Bald Eagle. A great harrier flight with 34. Moderate Accip numbers with 29 sharpies and 9 Coops. Triple digit red-tails including some nice looks at a few 'northerns' plus two red-shoulders and the second broad-wing of the season. Falcons were a bit light with only two kestrels, but a peregrine was a nice highlight being only our sixth of the season and the first since March 26th. Predictions: Note: The grass is still too wet to park on without risking getting stuck. If the north lookout parking lot is full please park at the large gravel lot on Sage Creek Drive and walk up. TOMORROW: Cloudy. High 62F. Winds SSE at 10-15mph. Good wind direction, though maybe slightly weaker than would be ideal. With the light winds and cloudy skies the flight may take a little longer to get going, but conditions are still looking good overall. It is probably a few days too early for a large Broad-winged Hawk flight since they haven't been reported in the region in any real numbers yet, but we will likely get some. Conditions are favorable overnight for good non-raptor migration so there should be a new batch of songbirds for the morning. Expect moderate to good migration. TUESDAY: A few morning showers then cloudy and windy. High 48F. Winds WSW at 20-30mph. Winds better in morning but showers may hold back the flight. Expect light to moderate migration. WEDNESDAY: Windy with snow showers in the morning. High 39F. Winds W at 20-30mph. Expect light to moderate migration. ======================================================================== Report submitted by David Brown ([email protected] ) Derby Hill Bird Observatory information may be found at: http://onondagaaudubon.com/derby-hill-bird-observatory/ More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=358 -- New postings to the entire list: [email protected] Subscription configuration instructions: https://it.cornell.edu/lyris/basic-e-list-member-tasks Listowner contact: [email protected] Archives: https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/maillist.html
