I have a few more!
1. I recall a parking ramp behind the St. James Hotel in Red Wing.
2. How detrimental is it to our downtown economy when citizens shop or
choose to receive other services elsewhere because they can't stand dealing
with the parking situation? Here's one example: I quit working downtown
almost two years ago. I can probably count on one hand the stops I've made
at Midtown Foods since then. I used to shop there 1-2 times per week!
3. Has there ever been an effort to research the idea of a small parking
structure suited to the size of our downtown? Or is this too hot a
controversy that nobody wants to touch it? I think that if some facts were
gathered and distributed, we could either move forward or put it to rest.

Two comments:
1. Parking ramps are very expensive. I can't recall ever seeing one in a
city the size of Winona. Has anyone seen what I have not? La Crosse and
Rochester are cities 2-3 times our size with many more resources.
2. When I'm downtown during business hours I see the large city lot on the
tracks between Main and Center less than 1/2 full. One has to wonder how
many business owners, managers and employees insist on parking near where
they work instead of leaving those spots for customers? I have personally
heard downtown workers comment on going out to move their vehicles in spots
directly outside their place of employment to avoid tickets. I have to
wonder how much of the "parking problem" downtown has more to do with human
nature than adequate parking.
