[Winona Online Democracy]
Scott's message rings true, to a point. I found the opposite to be true
when we moved into town 6+ years ago, but my work allowed me to meet many
people on a professional basis in the first year. I remember my wife
talking
about how it took her almost two years to really find anyone in her age and
interest group, and she was actively involved in parent groups and social
things. I would agree that many of the people we met had family here or
had grown up here and already had a full social calendar. People joke that
after 20 years they're almost accepted as a "townie."

I have some experience with this one and want to share it with you. My wife
(Connie Blackburn) and I moved to Rollingstone 7 years ago, with two kids
in school, and both of us are involved in work that includes many community
connections.
