[Winona Online Democracy] Paul, Do you honestly feel that a child of eleven has the common sense, or even the capacity to make a decision about an addiction that will affect him for the rest of his life? Recent research has shown that young children of 11,12,13 can become addicted to tobacco after only 10-20 cigarettes. While this child is trying to decide whether or not he should do something that is "bad" for him, highly educated, well paid adults are figuring out new ways to market their product to him, while other even more educated adults are finding new ways to make their addictive product even more addictive, to keep this kid a life-long customer. I'm glad you found a way to quit smoking Paul, truly, good for you! I'm glad your health has been good (at least I assume it has). I know another little boy who started smoking at 11 (my dad) He had a heart attack at 49. I'm sure at 11 he couldn't comprehend how smoking would affect his health. Anyway, I hope others don't think the poor tobacco industry has been beat up on too much. Their number one goal is to make money, and their best way to do it is by addicting 11 year olds to their deadly product. Remember, they have to replace the million or so customers they kill every year. I have no sympathy for them.
