I echo Chief Pomeroy's remarks regarding enforcement of underage drinking
laws. To me, 46 underage individuals in a bar is just plain irresponsibility
on the part of those responsible for checking I.D.'s. It is my understanding
that most did not even have I.D.'s on them. I would hope that the city would
take a stronger position regarding these liquor license infractions. Small
fines or suspending a license for a couple week days doesn't send a strong
enough message to the local liquor establishments. If a liquor establishment
is unwilling or unable to restrict it's patrons to those of legal age, then
the city should take effective measures to show that the community is
serious about controlling underage drinking.
