Re: Your Wish for a Voting Machine that Would Recognize Ballot Errors
The new optical readers used in the Metro "kicks back" overvotes. The voter
is given the option to have the scanner overidden (why they would, I don't
know) or cast a new ballot. For whatever reason, undervotes are not addressed
- maybe because some voters choose to say "pox on both houses")
I just spoke with our State Rep. (Elect) Eric Lipman (formerly Deputy
Secretary of State, and Member of our Planning Commission). He is drafting a
Bill for the next session to (in some manner) provide State assistance to
upgrade to the new voting machines Outstate. No details of the Bill available
as of yet. I'll post info here as it becomes available.
