[Winona Online Democracy] http://www.house.gov/gutknecht/dme.htm This link has information which those interested in the DM&E issues may find useful. For example -- how to access the Draft Environmental Impact Statement. But, this site might make people feel like it is too late.... "The public has 90 days to provide comments on the DEIS. All comments must be postmarked no later than 90 days from the October 6th publication date (January 5, 2001)." I sure don't know what can be done or if there is any real opportunity left for input. It feels just like as if we had a highway near town which was originally seeing 5 semi-trucks per day on it...And now, we are going to see 1,000 trucks per day on that same highway. Once that highway is built, can anyone really require that only a certain number of vehicles use it? I wonder how many trucks were seen on I-90 the year it was built compared to what we see today. The analogy may not be a good one - but perhaps it'll bring an added spin to the discussion. BTW -- I personally think Winona needs a way for emergency vehicles to get across or under the tracks. But, I understand DM&E isn't involved with any tracks in town. So, who would be responsible?
