(Cherisa) Over the years, I have personally worked with many of the volunteers and the leader (Vicky) of the Women's Resource Center.  I have found them to be very compassionate people that provide a very needed service to the Winona area.  It wasn't my intention to imply that they discriminate, and I know first hand that they don't. I was concerned that their funding could also be cut since those that seek the services of the Women's Resource Center are primarily women.

The Boy Scouts are a wonderful organization that works on team building, self-confidence, and the list could go on and on.  Whether or not I agree with the stance of the leadership (national level) of the Boy Scouts when it comes to who can and can't be leaders is not the point I was making.

The point is that it will be the children that will suffer.  I am all for programs that can help children grow and experience positive things in their lives.  If I wasn't an advocate for children, I wouldn't have worked and been involved in the programs that I have been over the years.  I am also for the fair treatment of all people.  And, I don't feel the decision of the United Way is fair to the children.

Couldn't the funding still be provided to the Boy Scout programs as long as the dollars aren't spent on administrative costs?  This way the children, that are the pawns in this mess, could still benefit and not the adults.

I may not agree with everything that the Boy Scouts do or say; however, I, like Ed, do feel that the positives out way the negatives.  I also feel that the Winona troop has different view points than the national level.  Some of my more fond memories are from my involvement in Cub and Boy Scouts when I was growing up.  I would like more children to have these memories when then become adults.
