[Winona Online Democracy]

Sarah & Karen;
Yeah, i think not signing the policy was stupid on behave of the Boy Scouts but
reading some of these posts i can kind of understand why.
It seems like the local scout leaders, e.g. Ed Thompson, are much less likely to
discriminate against a gay scout than the "old generals" but they are caught in a
Catch
22 by the need to follow the national policy.
Which does not mean that i agree in any way shape or form with the scouts policy,
nor does it mean i do not support the United Way's decision.
I can only speculate what would have happened had the local scout chapters shown
the courage to challenge the national policy and signed the United Way statement.
Where would we be today if people like Mohandas Ghandi and Martin Luther King,
Jr. had not challenged the status quo, and had waited for the "time to be right" to
work for basic human rights for all people?
