[Winona Online Democracy]

The responses to my recent posting support my main point, namely that
name-calling gets us nowhere and shouldnt be accepted from anyone on any side
of an issue. I think its to Lori Baumgardts credit that she admits she did
not think at all about how those on the other side of the discussion would
perceive the article, and that If someone posted an article ridiculing gays
and lesbians in the manner as what I posted yesterday, I would be upset, too.

Mr. Voegelis response, too, demonstrates how unpleasant it is to be
labeled--even though I didnt label him. I didnt call him ignorant or
illiterate, nor did I make anything remotely resembling a disparaging remark
about his ears or any of the other personal features he brought into the
discussion. I merely asked if the "logic" applied in the original posting
should be applied in similar cases. Based on his response, I guess Mr. Voegeli
doesnt think so.

As far as Mr. Voegelis remark that expecting teachers to write correctly is
holding them to higher standards, I guess it demonstrates that we have
different definitions of higher standards.
