Winona jurist will analyze and interpret the Supreme Court decision that 
determined the outcome of the 2000 presidential election.


Judge Duane Peterson will present, "Gore v Bush: An Analysis of the Supreme 
Court Decision" in the May Murray Education Center of the Winona County 
Historical Society on Wednesday April 25 at 12:05 p.m.

Judge Peterson will review the majority and dissenting opinions written by 
United States Supreme Court justices in Gore v Bush. He will present an 
analysis of the key issues as interpreted and argued in the both the majority 
and the minority opinions.  He will also discuss the reasoning and precedent 
used by the justices in their decisions.

Judge Duane Peterson presided over the Third District Court in Caledonia for 
ten years.  He graduated first in his class from St. Paul College of Law and 
began practicing law in Winona in 1959.  He practiced law here for thirty 
years until he accepted Governor Rudy Perpich's appointment as a Judge in the 
Third Judicial District.  He was selected "Trial Judge of the Year" in 1998 by 
the American Board of Advocates and in 1999 by the Certified Trial Advocates
