[Winona Online Democracy]

Maybe by not buying American some of us are protesting the US
corporations that have purchased their 'Republic' or 'Democracy.'
(Whichever term you choose to use there.)

Hurt their bottom line so they have to stop wasting their money on
buying congressional representation and spend it on worthless items such
as employees or fixing the roof to the building. (Who needs employees I
thought those machines ran by themselves!)

Maybe the Wall Street mentality of if you miss earnings by 1 dollar and
fifty cents (revenue) it is time to tank the stock 85 percent should be
changed. If it were not for that mentality, many jobs would still be in
the states. If it were not for a certain president Clinton selling out
America for corporate interests to NAFTA, many jobs would still be in
the states. (... but that isn't what the Clinton administration will
tell you... you have to dig for the real facts)

> When we buy a tarp, shirt or pair of shoes that is not made in USA we
> are
> part of the problem.

Try to find an American shirt, sometimes that is quite hard.

> When we import labor to pick our crops we are part of the problem.

> When we buy foreign steel and environmentally shut down our mines and
> mills
> we are part of the problem.

I suppose letting streams get so polluted all the wildlife dies off is
not such a bad thing. After all, if there is no wildlife there it makes
a prime spot to dump illegally (no feeling of remorse for the
environmental impact, perfect!).

> When we shop price first we are part of the problem.

If something is 20 bucks here and 25 bucks there I am taking 20 bucks.
The purpose of competition is exactly that. Retailers like Wal*Mart
corrected that pesky problem a long time ago by running numerous
downtown areas under. Some people do not make enough money to be able to
afford to through out 5 bucks here 10 bucks there. (Hint, Hint, Hint)

Of course, competition really does not exist any more since the Bush
administration in context said that Microsoft can drive everybody out of
business with their inferior crap. (As long as they keep donating money
to our party, we do not care!) Look at the statements coming from Msft,
'I cannot believe the government would hamper innovation.' Yep,
innovating new ways to break the law! They should be rewarded!

> When we buy a foreign car just because it is different or foreign we are
> part of the problem.

Maybe the mileage per gallon is better than the crap that has been
coming out of Detriot lately. Perhaps the safety numbers look far more
impressive.

> When we vacation out of the country because it costs less we are part of
> the problem.

Maybe the scenery is nice. Perhaps relatives. *No one* would travel
overseas to learn about something would they.

Are you going to tell us that going on vacation takes money out of
Winona also?
I would be proud to be part of that *problem!* (Translation for the last
sentence: Some people actually hate this town, contrary to popular
belief that everyone loves it.)

> When we buy prescription drugs in Canada we are part of the problem.

Maybe you should look at the other side of the problem. People cannot
afford to pay the outrageous price of drugs in this country.

> When we shop the internet to avoid sales taxes we are part of the
> problem.

Maybe congress should do something about that..... oh wait... that's
right they where too busy wasting their time last year on worthless
items such as impeachment and useless tax reductions.

Some of us do not shop to avoid taxes, I for one am not that cheap.

Maybe some of these items are unavailable in Winona?
That is one good reason why people shop in LaCrosse or Rochester. Winona
also attracts people from other areas. Of course they benefit Winona and
of course part of the problem.

> When we barter for goods and services to avoid taxes we are part of the
> problem.
> When we don't volunteer our time and talent we are part of the problem.

Which problem is this? This sounds like an effort to get services for
free rather than an economic problem.

> When we, as parents, don't support the efforts of our teachers in the
> classroom working with our kids, we are part of the problem.

Why not support the schools right now, stop the standardized testing
model that has proliferated our country and change to a model that is
internationally accepted. Of course, the standardised tests movement is
completely oblivious to that fact, It’s too bad to because every part of
society will suffer as a direct result of their failure to observe that
totally obvious fact.

Support schools, in Winona? LOL! When was the last time that happened?

> So the next time you buy a cheap blue tarp, a sweater or drive to
> LaCrosse
> to shop or for medical reasons remember you are part of the problem and
> more important you may have caused some worker in Winona to lose a
> benefit,
> a job, not pay local taxes or have quality "local" health care.

What I have heard about Winona Doctors makes me want to run and scream.

> It is the buyers who control the ball game not the sellers.
>
> What goes around comes around!

Perhaps it does. However, sometimes there exist other circumstances. Are
you going to accuse people that listen to imported musik being
treasonous too, after all it is not American?

Perhaps you should define what the problem is, 'problem this problem
that.' There is one problem, no solution is offered.

The real problem is rooted in Washington with their constant supply of
corporate subsidies. With these subsidies, it prevents local players
form being on an equal footing with national players. That is *the
problem.*
