[Winona Online Democracy]
Ok, there is a lot of talk about the school budget in Winona and the state.
I am curios about something though. Why can the catholic schools get better
test results from their students on less money than the public schools? My
children have always attended the public schools because I always believed
that the public schools do just as good a job as the catholic, but now I am
changing my mind. I am not a religious person, but I want the best
education for my children that I can get for them. That was one of the
reasons for moving to MN and Winona. Now I'm frustrated because I know that
my children could get even better than what they are getting. That some of
the teachers don't care whether my child can spell simple words or not.
That the school will continue to pass my child from grade to grade because
it's easier than helping with what is needed. Because of all of this, I
have spent that past few months looking into other schools for my children
and I seem to have to found it in the catholic schools. Of course, that
means that I must pay tuition for my children to attend those schools. And
at the same time it looks like I might be paying for the public schools with
taxes again. I'm sorry to say this, but I think that some one needs to take
a careful look at the money that the public schools spend and find out why
they spend so much and the schools aren't doing the jobs they are paid to
do.
I will stop here because I feel that I am rambling about the schools and
that's not what I wanted to do. I just want people(the school board) to
know that there are many people out here that are upset with the way things
are going right now and something needs to change without hurting the kids.
