Reading the messages going back and forth about the respect/tolerance issue is quickly beginning to resemble the situation in the Middle East. The Israelis and the Palestinians both claim peace is the is the ultimate goal. They both claim this while simultaneously, talking past each other and continuing to perpetuate violence against each other. In this situation, we are squabbling about respect and tolerance. Right now, we have factions (that probably is not the correct word to use in this situation) talking past each other, essentially repeating mostly the same things. Instead of talking past each other, realize that you are both right. That said, I will wonder out on a limb a bit. In any discussion group the below list will/should always apply: * From time to time we will get emotional in respect to certain issue(s) * People will disagree with you, the way which they do so may be questionable * Some will criticize the community or surroundings which they live, others will love their community/ surroundings. * The lurker to participant ratio will always be higher than it should be. * We are all human; mistakes happen (perhaps people could remember that this holiday season while they go shopping...) * Typos and grammatical mistakes will happen no matter how repeatedly you proof read * We are all individuals. This means we will all have unique writing styles. You may disagree with their style, but in the end you need to look past how it is written and examine what the point is. * Attacking the personality of the author is not only a waste of time, but does not accomplish anything. * Labels should never be applied to anyone. Some may like being labeled, but others will take it as a sign of disrespect. I could go on, but that would be pointless. Is it possible we can learn something from the on going squabblings between the Israelis and the Palestinians? -------------------------------------------------------------- Dan Dittmann: [EMAIL PROTECTED] How often do you say to yourself, "I didn't do it; so of course, it didn't get done?" --------------- This message was posted to Winona Online Democracy Please visit http://onlinedemocracy.winona.org to subscribe or unsubscribe All messages sent to the list must be signed with your actual name.
