You do not need to wait for an invitation. You are also free to download the source code and submit patches. If you do a good job at that, and demonstrate that you work well with others on the project and are not breaking the build, then a member of the Project Management Committee (PMC) can nominate you to be a committer. If voted in as a committer then you will have direct write access to the SVN. I don't want to make any promises, but a good coder who collaborates well with others on the list, can become a committer quickly. It sounds like this will be easy for you. In any case, I'd recommend starting with simple patches, at a module level, to make it easier to review. Also, where are you distributing the OS/2 ports?
