If there is anything in the name of a file (including its full path) in the
package that uses a non-ASCII character, that would explain the problem.  UTF-8
in the file names is likely not understood on Windows, with or without the
Unioode Extra Fields.  

I didn't think that is the problem, however, because the tar.gz was decoded by
WinZip without complaint.  To be certain, I instructed WinZip to extract the
tar it was showing me into a non-temporary folder.  That concluded quietly
without any report from WinZip.  The root folder aoo-3.4.1\ was successfully
extracted with 66,365 files in 6,935 folders.  There were no reports of file
collisions or of path-length problems.
