In that case, the common opinion completely ignores the ongoing 64bit driver and framework developments that are occurring on other projects and which OOo uses/requires for some of its functionality, e.g. Java, ODBC support, etc. Try explaining to users the logic of having to install a 32bit JRE when they have a 64bit system, or telling them that they have to use 32bit ODBC drivers instead of 64bit ones, and then see how they react.
