I am fine with testing on Windows 2000 for as long as I have the machine 
kicking around.

Could you leave the compiler settings thusly that produce binaries possible to 
use with Windows 2000? I assume that is what it indeed turned out to be, as 
fast as you were able to produce a compatible 
build.
