2. In my opinion it would make no sense to build an ooRexx implementation for
z/OS, because IBM integrats Rexx on z/OS
as a script language in a lot of subsystems (TSO, ISPF, QMF, DB2, USS (Unix
System Services), NetView etc.) and
I think it wouldn't be possible to replace it with ooRexx.
The main difference between ooRexx and z/OS Rexx from the point of view as a
system programmer is the option to build
programs using the graphical user interface. On z/OS the only GUI is ISPF -
something looks like DOS screens ;-)
The possibility of the object oriented programming should be after my
experience for system programmers hardly of interest -
most of the system programmer known to me was ever not interested in
programming and the developers on z/OS use COBOL
and, with a PC based workbench, C or Java, rarly C++.
Therefore: why do you want a z/OS version of ooRexx?
Btw: What could be very interesting in my opinion, would be the ability to use
the HLLAPI.
I already developed some scripts with the very bad VBA interface of Rumba, a
3270 emulator, to automate repetitive inputs.
My experiments with ooRexx failed because I didn't understand how to call the
the 3270 api -
with Excel I have come a little further by I've been experimenting with the
undocumented pointer functions.
