Hi Leslie, in the ADDRESS keyword instruction block "WITH OUTPUT and WITH ERROR" this is exactly what rexxref5 says about option STREAM: "If option STREAM is specified, stream must be a literal string, a constant expression, or an expression enclosed in parentheses that evaluates to a string which is used as the stream name." So if a variable is specified, it must be enclosed in parens. What further explanation are you missing?
