I do not have to count the number of blanks. I just visually and
vertically line-up the start of visible text on each line. The number
of blanks is irrelevant so long as they are the same for a given block
of code.

I meant that to "line up" performed the same function as parenthesis
or braces in other languages.

Could you describe how to "line up" something in less than 2 dimensions?
