Yes, that was the idea. So, let's prepend to what I wrote: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These instructions show you how to build FriCAS on MS Windows from the sources in the subversion repository. You may want to consider building FriCAS from a distribution tarball instead, which contains pregenerated algebra Lisp, HyperDoc pages and graphic examples. Moreover, using the tarball the build is much faster - a few minutes instead of a few hours. You can get a tarball via http://fricas.sourceforge.net/download.html ... =============================================================================== A general comment -- although very likely you know this: I'm trying to build FriCAS on various platforms not because I have too much time or the fun of it, and not because I'd actually use it. Rather: 1) I think it's a service to the FriCAS community if FriCAS has been built successfully by several people, on different platforms, with possibly different settings. Ideally, there shouldn't be any surprises when one builds, no matter whether from distribution tarball, nor from svn. 2) I made some very unpleasant experiences with VMware and coLinux, and even with Cygwin. An example: a collegue was very enthusiastic about a package coming with FriCAS I told him about. So I visited him in his office, downloaded Bill's coLinux distribution, and clicked install. End of the story: his MS Windows said that this would perform some "dangerous" operation (not the usual warning that something is not MS certified or some such) - end of the story. He refused to continue. And I must say, I understand him well. He is an excellent mathematician, but uses his computer mostly for typesetting. He said it would cost him too much energy if something went wrong with his computer. Of course, we cannot fix MS Windows. But I can make at least try installation instructions myself. And since I'm a complete Makefile ignorant, I believe that I'm quite a good tester... Finally, I'd like to say a big THANK YOU for your support and cooperation!
