That seems to me like very good news. A lower price should boost sales. Buying a card that "just works" in Free OSses and also "contributes to open source" is a lot easier at, say, $100 than at $200 for non-fanatics. More performance is always a good thing. The closer this card comes to playing several decent games (Tuxracer, Quake III, etc), the more it will appeal to people who want to play the occasional game on their Free OS. Also, this would mitigate the reciprocal-precision-problems on the FPGA, and other related gate-budget issues, I think.
