Hi you all and let's work to make this project into real ;)
I would definitely go for ADV73xx series analog back-end as it offers just unsurpassed flexibility and much to play with in the future. I would also guess that many of us have seen enough crappy tv-outs and less perfect vga-signals, now we have the possibility to make it right. Then we can say good byes for Matrox-domination in that field of Linux, and possibly finally get JustWorking(tm) way of graphics on all platforms. I think I may leave the repeating of the data sheet contents...
My interest focuses mainly on high quality (regarding output signals) and I won't be the right person to discuss with GPU-design - I do however know that it does the magic and bad interfacing will just ruin the appeal. To me the following concept would be ideal: Dual Head (what the heck is the definition... ) DVI-I and VGA/HDTV/SDTV and large enough frame buffer to feed 2*1920x1200 with triple buffering @32bpp on AGP-bus. (SD/PAL videoserver on endless loop 24/7/365 and HTPC HD/RGB to some good old tube projector + lcd (just the WUXGA-lcd is unavailable for economic reasons :I))
-Vesa
PS. I'm not a ADI salesman, those chips are just good and available also in Finland :) Also my hobbies include quite a lot of tinkering with electronics/RF hw as needed in amateur television (ham radio, amateur radio -kinda sub-class). I also have certain moral obligation towards FOSS-projects.
PPS. Just for the more curious of you: Gentoo Linux 2.6.9-r14 on AMD64, but lacking the proper GFX-card ;)
