You are right.  But putting the whole thing under GPL opens us up to
totally legitimate things that could undermine us (the three hardware
designers).

It's one thing to donate time to the project.  But when I start
spending gobs of money on it, I want to be able to recoup my
investment.  Solve that problem, and you get what you want.

Always remember:  To me and my colleagues, this is a HARDWARE project,
and hardware is EXPENSIVE.
