Don't know if this has been mentioned here before or not, but I see a
lot of use for this project way beyond just a 2d/3d accelerator. What
I would like to see is a board with an FPGA, and a few high quality
video DACs and ADCs. This would allow the open source community to use
the same board for creating a video adaptor, capture card, mpeg
encoder/decoder, or anything that could be optimized in hardware.

There is a poject that just came out a while back (can't remember the
name of it) that does real time raytracing on a FPGA. A simple
development board like this would be great for bringing hardware
accellerators to almost every task imaginable, because all the harware
(the "hard part" of the job) is already done.
