[00:01] <chip> SecretSquirrel: yeesh. give him some credit, I imagine he's figured that out. ;-P [00:01] <SecretSquirrel> The digest will be sent out each day at 00:10UTC. [00:01] <SecretSquirrel> chip, yeah, I know, but that way the explanation makes it to the entire mailing list as well. :) [00:03] <chip> ugh. you're sending a digest out? [00:03] <SecretSquirrel> yup. No more wise cracks and goofing off. ;) [00:04] <chip> seems unnecessary. [00:04] <SecretSquirrel> perhaps [00:04] <SecretSquirrel> But it will also get the info in the list archives. [00:05] <chip> I've picked up a copy of _PCI System Architecture_ and I'm waiting for Timothy to send out his mem controller docs. [00:05] <chip> fair enough, in case you server goes down? [00:05] <SecretSquirrel> or I dissappear for any reason. [00:06] <chip> er. alright. [00:06] * chip keeps a close watch on SecretSquirrel. [00:06] <SecretSquirrel> It does look like the cgi's are broke though. I'll have to take a look at it. [00:06] <SecretSquirrel> heh. [00:06] <chip> the cgis only seem broken when requesting non-html format. [00:07] <SecretSquirrel> yeah, and they are only serving up the current day's logs. [00:08] <chip> hrm. didn't catch that. [00:08] <chip> do you have an svn account at this point? [00:09] <SecretSquirrel> No, haven't asked for one yet. [00:10] <chip> I guess that was Tim. [00:28] <SecretSquirrel> chip, try it now [00:29] <chip> looks good. [00:31] <chip> thanks for setting that up. [00:32] <SecretSquirrel> I can't always be on IRC and I feel like I'm missing an important discussion when I'm not. [00:32] <SecretSquirrel> Now I don't have to worry. [00:33] <chip> I just run irssi in screen. [00:33] <chip> er. whoops, this session isn't actually. [00:33] <SecretSquirrel> heh. [00:34] <chip> I got sick of xchat. [00:35] <theosib> Hey [00:35] <chip> hey. [00:36] <chip> where's the memory controller interface docs? [00:37] <SecretSquirrel> oh, be nice. :) [00:37] <chip> ;-P [00:37] <SecretSquirrel> But now it's my turn. :) Any reason why the listserve task so long to deliver messages? [00:38] <chip> SecretSquirrel: I do like the dirty vga char idea. [00:38] <chip> I was wondering the same. [00:38] <SecretSquirrel> Yeah, me too. I'm depressed I didn't think of it. :) [00:39] <SecretSquirrel> But, that's why design teams are around. [00:39] <chip> heh. [00:39] <chip> it's not *that* much more complicated either. [00:39] <SecretSquirrel> No, it's not. [00:39] <SecretSquirrel> I was serious when I said one extra read, an xor, conditional jump and write. [00:40] <chip> just a corresponding flag bit for each char. [00:40] <SecretSquirrel> Don't even need that. [00:41] <chip> if the vga controller keeps a local copy of the dirty char buffer, it can be pretty optimized I would think. [00:41] <chip> no unnecessary reads. [00:41] <SecretSquirrel> First (VGA text) buffer. Read second (back) buffer. XOR the two reads. Is the result 0? Yes, move on to the next character pair. Otherwise, write the new pair to the back buffer and blit out normally. [00:42] <chip> something would have to be done to update the buffer though so the controller sees a change. [00:42] <chip> the vga text buffer isn't local to the controller, is it? [00:42] <SecretSquirrel> Nope. [00:43] <chip> what we are already doing is probably sufficient. [00:43] <chip> are we anywhere close on the other portions of the design? [00:44] <SecretSquirrel> Based on what Timothy has said, the PCI interface is coming along, though not near done. [00:45] <SecretSquirrel> It's kinda an important part. [00:45] <SecretSquirrel> I'm trying to find out if I can use my PCISIG access from work without violating any ethics rules. [00:46] <chip> indeed. I wish I was more qualfied to help. [00:46] <SecretSquirrel> I'm not sure I'm qualified. :) [00:47] <SecretSquirrel> But I have found that sometimes having someone who doesn't "know" what they are looking at can point out the most obvious problems. [00:47] <chip> yeah. [00:47] <chip> theosib: are you sleeping? [00:47] <SecretSquirrel> Partly because they don't assume anything and have no preconceived notions about how things are supposed to work. [00:50] <chip> I'm out for the evening. [00:50] <chip> later folks.
