Leaving aside the question of whether either OGP or Traversal really
needs an animal mascot, which I don't really have an opinion about, here are
some more candidates.
The golden retriever is one of the friendliest and most helpful
animals, and a darn good-looking dog. The border collie is among the
smartest breeds of dog, and it's also a handsome animal.
Bears are also very smart animals, and they can be sociable if
they're raised with people. I've seen American black bears perform in
shows, and watched film of polar bears and grizzlies outsmarting zoo
keepers. Some people may remember a grizzly named Bart, who acted in movies
for years. Then there's the panda, with its striking appearance.
Among birds, the blue jay, the cardinal, the hummingbird, and the
magpie are colorful possibilities. There are some colorful ducks and geese,
too.
