IANAL, but in Germany exist do kinds of rights: the author's rights
('Urheberrecht') and the exploitation right ('Verwertungsrecht'). The
exploitation right should be similar to the US-American copyright: The
author can give the right of exploitation to another
person/institution. This is common practice in publishing
corporations.  The author's rights ('Urheberrecht') cannot be handed
over, it always stays with the author. 
So I think if the statement says something like 'the author grants all
rights of distribution to Traversal ...' that should be ok. But then
again, IANAL ;>
