Foundation was the name of some Xilinx software.  But Podium is really
good.  Pedestal sounds cooler, but I see your point.

How about some of these names to ponder:

Metaphor  (or any kind of meta- or -phor)
Adaptor or Adaptyr (Adapter is the normal spelling)
Analogy
Platform
Dais, Pulpit, Rostrum
Surface, Plane, Interface, Interstice
Outerface, Extraface, Intraface
Epigram
Epithet
