It's cool that you're doing this. My priority right now is verifying the correctness of the design, regardless of what tools we used. I am assuming that in the process of doing this conversion, you will discover bugs in the design. Note that I believe the reason Howard chose to use proprietary tools was that be felt that the artwork would require more PCB layers than are supported by the open tools. Just keep this in mind if you decide to take on the challenge of converting the artwork too.
