But analog noise makes more than 24 bits a waste of bits. I can't see that more than 20 bits are really going to make any difference. That (20) is 19 bits and a sign bit. For that to be significant you need a -114 dB noise floor which is more than is generally available with op amps. For 23 bits and a sign bit you are going to need 24 more dB of dynamic range which is simply not possible.
