Hi,
I installed the latest wine from the Ubuntu (Dapper) repositories and
gave a shot at installing the ISE 6.3.
The installation of the main application (WebPACK_63_fcfull_i.exe) went
without any problems, the service pack
(6_3_03i_pc.exe) went ok until 100% finished, then crashed with an empty
dialog box. I compared the installation
directory to the one on the windows partition and it seemed to be
identical, so there's hopefully no real problem.
After that, I had to copy over the mfc42.dll from <windir>/system32 to
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 .
Starting ISE went ok as well... but it crashed with a coredump after I
finished creating a new project...
(see winecrash.txt)
It always seems to happen in the file_open dialogs... but besides that,
I have no clue how to fix it...
Perhaps some else could try his luck?
I guess I will just run the ISE in it's native environment... the whole
wine thing is a rather pointless waste
of time and developer ressources in my opinion, but don't get me started
on that, and don't answer on this,
the discussion leads nowhere important for this project ;-)
I am also getting discouraged with WINE.
However in this case, I must ask a really stupid question: is there some
reason that you don't just install the Linux version? I installed it
and it appears to work OK.
The file is: WebPACK_81i_WebInstall.sh

Regarding other free development software that isn't available for
Linux, you can go here:

and volunteer to help with testing the app on CrossOver.
