Beats me. IANAL. But if the purpose of a vendor ID / device ID
combination is to insure uniqueness so that the correct driver will be
started automagically, which is the obvious assumption, then it seems likely
there would be no serious objection as long as no incompatible device uses
the same ID.
Can't hurt to ask.
