I'd like to put out a call for 4 or 5 driver writers to help with the
following pieces of software for OGD1, OGC1, etc.:
- VGA BIOS
- Linux kernel driver
- Linux fbconsole driver
- Linux DRI driver
- X11 DDX module
- Mesa driver (later than the others)
Those that volunteer will be lent OGD1 cards. Most likely, those who
check in working code will get their loans made permanent.
Takers?

I'll contribute where I can, but between working on the Foundation
paperwork, reading up on PCI, the video controller, and the VGA block,
I've got my hands full. My suggestion would be to get the raw linux
driver, fbconsole, and an X framebuffer driver going first. Being able
to use the card as a raw framebuffer will be a first big step. X
performance will be really lousy, but it will be something we can really
show off. It's also (IMHO) the easier of the set to start work on.
It would be nice to see one person step forward to take the lead on each
of the pieces. If someone wanted to step forward as lead
architect/project lead for the whole software piece that would be good
too. I know it's not true bazaar style development, but as Timothy has
pointed out in the past, all the really successful Open Source projects
seem to have a lead person who herds everyone else in the "correct"
direction.
Ultimately I think we are going to need to engage the Linux BIOS folks
(the probably have the most knowledge about VGA BIOS do's and don'ts),
the kernel DRI developers (DRI driver obviously), and the X.org people
(for the X driver). We don't necessarily need their help per se, but
being new kids on the block, we should get everyone's input and buy in
where possible.
