Yes, i thought about that too. And more than once over the past
years. But i came to the conclusion that it is not worth the
effort. The main reason is, that we would need to support a lot
of other cards, which depends on their proper documentation
(there is a reason why mga_vid is matrox only: it was the only
properly documented card back then, that had a back end scaler).
Another reason is that the API would need to be generic enough
to support all other cards out there that are and that will be.
This is something that cannot be acheived by only knowing one
card family. But the number of peoples out there who know
more than one card is very limited.
So i consider OGA again a special case and make a oga_vid.
The main reason for it is having a special -vo module for
mplayer anyways ;-)
