Never attribute to attempts at userfriendliness that which is adequately 
explained as cost savings :-).

Terminators cost money, and most desktop pc's have one harddisc and one 
CD drive right next to the mainboard. So they used the cheapest thing 
that would get the job done in a significant number of cases.
