If anyone else wants to try the particular video in question, it's the HD version of the Blender Foundation's "Elephant's Dream" project, in case it's a peculiarity of that particular file. As I may well have a broken media player/X server set up, I'm kinda loathe to be held up as a benchmark so frequently. ;) OTOH, I'm getting a new laptop soon(ish), which is probably going to be Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 with Intel GMA 950 graphics, so I'll try again with that and let everyone know.
