Karbon14 remains a seriously broken app, but I did manage to make a

This isn't exactly correct, but it does have reflected gradients.

be compressed or binary.

That's a PS with an embedded bitmap. Try scaling it to see. Of course, that works, but I'd like a somewhat higher resolution for a poster. Inkscape lets you set the resolution (and it defaults to 300dpi anyway), so there's no problem there.
