As pointed out, one has to wonder if using flash memory for the swap drive would wear it out in a short time.

Doing some more research, it appears that what is needed is a hardware RAID 2 controller card. These don't seem to exist. Also it would take 7 flash cards for a 32 bit wide disk. OTOH, this would appear to address the problem of the flash cards wearing out since such a system would continue to operate OK with one card completely dead. And, IIUC, the cards themselves have some error correction.
