I don't know if that will be sufficient for Opengraphics (probably not, or 
maybe a stripped-down version), but Altera is soon releasing the EP3C40, 
which is, AFAIK, the biggest FPGA available in QFP package.
Making PCBs for and soldering QFPs (can be done with iron and inexpensive 
solder wick) is still much cheaper than BGAs for the hardware tinkerer.
The big negative point about Altera is that there is no free-of-charge edition 
of Quartus for Linux.
