How hard would it be to modify Icarus so that it could be given an energy model and generate power consumption estimates? Presumably, this would apply mostly to gate-level simulations where low-level gates and other resources are given switching current models.
What would be really cool would be to estimate temperature from that and use that to compute leakage current dynamically. For that, we would need to be able to give it a floor plan. And it would be even cooler still if we could provide a variation model so that it could take into account the differences in switching characteristics between different transistors in the same die. How hard would this be? People doing architecture have lots of existing tools for estimating this kind of stuff, but using something like Icarus, we could be just that much more realistic. -- Timothy Normand Miller http://www.cse.ohio-state.edu/~millerti Open Graphics Project _______________________________________________ Open-graphics mailing list [email protected] http://lists.duskglow.com/mailman/listinfo/open-graphics List service provided by Duskglow Consulting, LLC (www.duskglow.com)
