I would shorten this a bit to give it a better chance. That said, the guys behind Slashdot and its selection process certainly make up for one of the mysteries of this universe. :-)
Suggestion: (removed some details and redundancies including the OSNews reference, and made some other changes) The Open Graphics Project aims to develop a fully open-source graphics card; all specs, designs, and source code are released under Free licenses. Right now, FPGAs (large-scale reprogrammable chips) are used to build a development platform called OGD1. They've just completed an alpha version of legacy VGA emulation, apparently not an easy feat. Here's Gentoo booting up, with OGD1 acting as a primary display. The Linux Fund is receiving donations, so that ten OGD1 boards can be bought (at cost) for developers. Also, the FSF shows their interest by asking volunteers to help with the OGP wiki. /David Timothy Normand Miller wrote: > Slashdot hasn't seen much news about the Open Graphics Project for > some time now, but the OGP has been quite busy, especially recently. > As you may recall, the OGP's goal is to develop a fully open-source > graphics card. The announcement can be seen on the href="http://wiki.opengraphics.org/tiki-index.php?page=HomePage">OGP > home page, and there's an href="http://www.osnews.com/story/21358/Video_of_OGD1_VGA_Emulation_Booting_in_PC">OSNews.com > article.
