I suspect that it may be difficult to get them to release bitstream information.
"difficult" is an understatement (like this line).
Well, can SOMEONE please make a debian-nonfree package (or a tarball) and tell me what I have to apt-get install to make a damn bitstream for *something*, and then I'll buy whatever that board is? :)
This would go against their EULA, I believe, as they prefer to control even the distribution of their software package, that contains tons of stuff from whoknowswhere. A legal nightmare. So I stick to the old XP box "to get things done". I have some hopes that Actel will evolve more toward Linux, seeing how M$ is BORKING their own platform and infuriating their most loyal customers. Even Actel got a "swat" from M$ when they changed some of their APIs without notice.
If I ever win the lottery, or have $100 million to throw away the first thing I'm going to do is hire a bunch of FPGA silicon designers from Xilinx, Altera, and Actel and make a frickin FPGA with AGPLv3 GDS files and an open source toolchain to make frickin bitstreams.
Well unfortunately it's too late, SiliconBlue has been bought by Lattice. It's really sad. But for a much smaller amount of money you can get a working XP box, Lattice or Actel board, and start coding. It depends on whether you need your dream to come true now or later. yg _______________________________________________ Open-graphics mailing list [email protected] http://lists.duskglow.com/mailman/listinfo/open-graphics List service provided by Duskglow Consulting, LLC (www.duskglow.com)
