I thought I had posted the below question but I think it bounced, so here it is
again:

We have loaded 3.8 million bibs in our test installation and I have asked our
catalogers to take a look. (We plan to load the rest of our bibs over the
weekend).

I have questions about how to use the org units in the item attributes. I
added a volume and an item, I gave it Owning location UC, Circ location JRL and
shelving location Regenstein Bookstacks, which has JRL as its owning location
in the copy_location table. I am logged on with my workstation set as UC. The
items displays in the opac view with JRL location, and in the details it shows
Regenstein Bookstacks. However, when I am in cataloging and call up the bib
again, then choose Holdings Maintenance, I get a line that says UC has 1 vol
and 1 copy but I cannot get at that item to edit the attributes. Am I doing
something wrong?

Do the shelving locations have to have UC as the owning location?

If I make JRL Owning location, then staff in the Law library, DLL cannot see
those items. That may be what is needed in a consortium, but our staff want to
see all the items owned by the university library whether they are circulating
out of the law library or the main library. I had a discussion on this list in
the past and was advised to have a 2 level set of org units, then use the
shelving locations for what are collections in our current system.

Advice anyone?
