I appreciate the response,

I did post, on this email, yesterday all the logs and error messages. I will try the Chat link and see if that helps, maybe this is not the right place to ask for help with installation - I have asked a few times with all logs included and this is the first response I have received.

Thanks again...

I got Evergreen 1.6.0.4 with OpenSRF 1.2.2 running on Debian 5.0.1 with a little help from the live chat interface (also available via the "Chat" link on the open-ils.org home page):

Prior to getting it running on Debian 5.0.1, I tried RedHat 5.1. That simply wasn't working and I eventually gave up. For instructions, I used the README in the 1.6.0.4 distribution and this web page (which is basically an updated HTML version of the README):

    http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=server:1.6.0:install

I agree that the instructions are not complete, but I didn't take notes during my installation so I can't say for sure what steps are wrong/different/missing. For the most part, I just worked through each problem as I came to it. But my experience with getting help was different than yours. I only used the chat room for support and even then only needed to use it twice. But both times resulted in quick a pointed help. It might require you to upload a log file or two. And even though I signed up for this email list, I never used it so can't really comment on whether it is a good source of help. Other solutions were found during numerous web searches.

You will definitely need to get more detailed about what is not working. Nothing will annoy free support folks more than a call for help that amounts to nothing more than "it doesn't work". For starters, try grepping for the string ERR in /openils/var/log/ (i.e. "grep -r ERR /openils/var/log).

Good luck...

Has anyone been able to install opensrf & evergreen without consultant support - and if you did - what was the trick that made it work on a standard Ubuntu server installation? We are trying to setup a server for a group of libraries to evaluate evergreen - but have not been able to get it to install and have not received responses to any of our questions. We have tried several different versions of ubuntu (8.04 and 9.04) We have been able to get opensrf to work a couple of times, but were unable to get evergreen to work. We have had several network oriented people to try it and none have had any success.

Is there anyone out there who has a different set of installation instructions, scripts, or binaries. We do not believe the instructions from the evergreen site are complete. We think we are missing something simple, but consistantly. We have tried several "solutions" found in various threads. We have noticed that almost everyone has had a difficult time during installation - please let us know the combination of operating system/opensrf/evergreen version you were able to get to work and how you did it.

Please help if you can - we have spent a few weeks on this already and would very much like to get to the next level.

Thanks,
Charles....
