Consider this: Max overdue threshold is set to .9 Grace period is configured for 1 day Patron has 10 items checked out, all due yesterday Patron comes in today with a stack of books to check out, but does not return the overdue items
In this situation the patron will be allowed to check out the first item. When the circ occurs the standing penalties are recalculated, and the attempt to check out the second item will fail. The recalculation can also be forced by hitting the 'Refresh' button on the patron screen in the client. Normally the standing penalties table is updated when the fine generator runs, but because of the grace period the update doesn't occur. I'm curious to know how others handle this situation.
